children feeding

My journey in private practice has lead to a greater passion for working with children/teens and parents. Learning to create healthy habits while fostering a healthy relationship with food/bodies is one of the greatest gifts you can offer your children/teen.

We live in a diet-obsessed culture that teaches us our bodies cannot be trusted, usually without us even realizing it. This can create a relationship with eating based on fear and external food rules, being out of touch with our own, inborn, regulatory cues.

In my work with parents, I use the “Division of Responsibility” model, created by Ellyn Satter. This framework helps children learn to self-regulate and make eating decisions based on their own hunger/fullness cues. This is in contrast to making eating decisions based on fear or pressure, which usually results in eating over or under what their bodies may need.

My work includes helping parents with this process—how to create structure and provide variety while also helping children self-regulate how much they eat. This leads to less food wars and promotes being in their own, natural/genetic weight range.
